BRD are members of the Invasive Weeds Group of the Property Care Association (PCA). The PCA ensures that all accredited companies employ appropriately trained experts and undergo regular assessment to ensure that their Code of Practice is being adhered to. The scheme run by the PCA is recognised by Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and mortgage lenders.
The PCA Certified Surveyors in Japanese Knotweed at BRD each have decades of experience of dealing with this most problematic plant. The team also have experience in other non-native invasive species such as Giant Hogweed, Bamboo, Himalayan Balsam and Variegated Yellow Archangel.
Once you realise you may have an invasive weed on site, the starting point for is getting an expert survey undertaken. An expert from BRD can visit the site to view the weed so we can understand how the plant may have introduced, the approximate length of time the weed had been established, the extent of infestation, check that there are no other infested areas and identify potential constraints to treatment.
Unlike our competitors, BRD do not push one particular type of treatment and instead present a variety of appropriate options for eradication of the knotweed. Through discussion with the Client of the pros and cons of each approach, we can develop a suitable way forward. Once agreed, BRD draw up the formal management plan in accordance with PCA guidelines.
BRD tend to work with land developers where the invasive species might be part of a complex situation impacting new structures and contaminated land. BRD do not tend to undertake invasive weed work for domestic Clients as there are plenty of other good PCA contractors for that work. It really is the complex situations where BRD excel particular where it is the combination of our unique consultancy and contracting skills incorporating geotechnical and contaminated land advice.
Our invasive weeds work has been recognised with contractor of the year award in 2021, a knotweed project receiving a highly commended award in 2023 and our training securing a colleague student of the year award.
